Man-Computer Cooperative Intelligent Science and Intelligent Technology

Dai Ruwei

Strategic Study of CAE 2004, Volume 6, Issue 5,   Pages 24-28

Abstract:

During the later 10 year period of twentieth century, there were two important events in the science and technology field which highly related to research on artificial intelligence (AI) : One was fifth generation computer project of Japan, and another one wasintelligent computer project (863 — 306) of China. After these projects were performed, the realization of “intelligent automation ”was transferred and improved. The academician Qian Xuesen has made a speech to summarize the importance of man - computer cooperative information processing, and the aim was not intelligent computer. We should study and develop the man-computer cooperative intelligent systems. Now we review the past , on 1994 the establishment of a new discipline on intelligent science and intelligent technology proposed by the author of this article. In addition the citation for development of man-computer cooperative intelligent systems in recent years are briefly given.

The Formation and Development of “Metasynthesis”

Lu Mingsen

Strategic Study of CAE 2005, Volume 7, Issue 1,   Pages 9-16

Abstract:

Metasynthesis is a new contribution of Qian Xuesen to modern science and technology in recent 20 years. It is one of the main achievements in the third creation upsurge in his life. Starting from analyzing historical background for the formation of metasynthesis, and quoting a large number of already published data, the article textually criticises and expounds the practising basis and practical process of the abstraction and formation of metasynthesis and the subsequent enrichment and development. Then the article points out its chief characteristic and its great effect and meaning for the development of modern science and technology.

Water---- and nutrient and energy---- systems in urbanizing watersheds

HALL

Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering 2012, Volume 6, Issue 5,   Pages 596-611 doi: 10.1007/s11783-012-0445-4

Abstract: Driven by considerations of sustainability, it has become increasingly difficult over the past 15–20 years — at least intellectually — to separate out the water infrastructure and water metabolism of cities from their intimately inter-related nutrient and energy metabolisms. Much of the focus of this difficulty settles on the wastewater component of the city’s water infrastructure and its associated fluxes of nutrients (N, P, C, and so on). Indeed, notwithstanding the massive volumes of these materials flowing into and out of the city, the notion of an urban nutrient infrastructure is conspicuous by its absence. Likewise, we do not tend to discuss, or conduct research into, “soilshed” agencies, or soilshed management, or Integrated Nutrient Resources Management (as opposed to its most familiar companion, Integrated Water Resources Management, or IWRM). The paper summarizes some of the benefits (and challenges) deriving from adopting this broader, multi-sectoral “systems” perspective on addressing water-nutrient-energy systems in city-watershed settings. Such a perspective resonates with the growing interest in broader policy circles in what is called the “water-food-energy security nexus”. The benefits and challenges of our Multi-sectoral Systems Analysis (MSA) are illustrated through computational results from two primary case studies: Atlanta, Georgia, USA; and London, UK. Since our work is part of the International Network on Cities as Forces for Good in the Environment (CFG; see www.cfgnet.org), in which other case studies are currently being initiated — for example, on Kathmandu, Nepal — we close by reflecting upon these issues of water-nutrient-energy systems in three urban settings with quite different styles and speeds of development.

Paths for the Digital Transformation and Intelligent Upgrade of China’s Discrete Manufacturing Industry

Li Xinyu, Li Zhaofu, Gao Liang

Strategic Study of CAE 2022, Volume 24, Issue 2,   Pages 64-74 doi: 10.15302/J-SSCAE-2022.02.008

Abstract:

The discrete manufacturing industry in China is currently being transformed and upgraded. Digital transformation and intelligent upgrade is an inevitable choice for China’s discrete manufacturing industry, as intelligent manufacturing can promote the quality, efficiency, and competitiveness of discrete manufacturing. The sub-sectors of discrete manufacturing in China differs significantly and requires diversified paths for digital transformation and intelligent upgrade. In this paper, we first summarize the typical characteristics of the discrete manufacturing industry, explore the challenges regarding the digital transformation and intelligent upgrade of the industry, and elaborate the common key technologies including advanced manufacturing, new-generation information, and new-generation artificial intelligence. Subsequently, we investigate four typical cases to present the frontier application progress in the field in China, and propose the following key development tasks: (1) achieving breakthroughs in keys enabling technologies for intelligent manufacturing, (2) developing intelligent manufacturing equipment, (3) building digital and intelligent workshops and factories, (4) providing digital and intelligent services, and (5) building standards and safety systems. Furthermore, it is necessary to accelerate pilot application, highlight domestication, increase the reserve of high-tech talents, and formulate relevant laws and regulations, to promote the high-quality development of China’s discrete manufacturing industry.
